Background and education

  • Undergraduate studies: Dr. Angineh Almasi attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Biology. During her undergraduate years, she participated in the CLEK research study at the UCLA Stein Eye Institute, David Geffen School of Medicine under the prestigious Dr. Barry A. Weissman.
  • Doctorate degree: The CLEK research study focused on patients with various corneal conditions such as Keratoconus. Due to her love for the medical field, Dr. Almasi decided to pursue the field of Optometry. She attended the University of Houston, College of Optometry, where she obtained her Doctorate Degree in Optometry in 2010.

Specialization

Dr. Almasi specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, retinal disease, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. She is an optometric physician focused on managing general eye disease as well as co-managing pre- and post-operative cataract and refractive procedures, such as LASIK, PRK, Keratoconus, Corneal Transplantation, and Intacs.

Experience

Dr. Almasi completed her externships and rotations at Bridge Builders, Dallas, TX, where she focused on diagnosing and treating anterior segment, posterior segment, and neuro-ocular diseases. At the San Diego Naval Base Medical Center in San Diego, CA, she provided eye care services to active-duty soldiers, retirees, and their families.

Scope of practice

Dr. Almasi performed primary eye care and contact lens services and worked in a multidisciplinary setting with other healthcare providers treating patients with various ocular and systemic conditions. At the University of Houston in Houston, TX, she examined and managed patients in four specialty clinics: Cornea & Contact Lens, Family Practice, Specialty Pediatrics, and Eye Medical Services. She managed patients with various ocular diseases and worked alongside glaucoma, oculoplastic, and retinal specialists. She had the privilege to experience various surgical procedures such as ALT, SLT, LPI, PRP, and grid/focal laser treatments.

Philosophy of care

Dr. Almasi takes tremendous pride in providing her patients with the highest level of care, whether she is writing a prescription, diagnosing, treating, managing medical conditions, or referring patients for surgical procedures.

Advising her valued patients on a variety of ocular procedures and treatment options is important to her. She enjoys educating her patients about the benefits their treatment will provide, whether it means an enhanced lifestyle or greater convenience.

Giving back to the community

Dr. Almasi participates in numerous personal and professional organizations. During her undergraduate and graduate years, she was an active member of many optometry associations. She also donates her time to various charities and organizations, including “One Sight,” where free eye exams and glasses are provided for underprivileged populations. She loves volunteering in her community and at her church.

On a personal note…

Dr. Almasi loves spending her free time with family and friends. She is fluent in English and Armenian. Dr. Almasi loves the field of Optometry and is very happy with her career choice.
