Entropy and Repair Inverted Eyelids
Entropion (“Inverted” Eyelid) Repair
Dr. Soroudi is a world expert in “functional” Ocular Plastic Surgery (“Oculoplastic”) Surgery. Having successfully treated thousands of conditions that affect the “function” of the human eyelids (everted eyelids, inverted eyelids, droopy eyelids, eyelid tumors, etc), he has become a specialist in treated such conditions.
Dr. Soroudi actually wrote his master degree’s thesis in conditions that affect the eyelids and the human orbit, and he spent two years with his mentor, Dr. Robert Alan Goldberg, Chief of the Division of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at UCLA to learn how to treat such conditions.
Entropion refers to a condition where the eyelid is turned inward causing the eyelashes to come in contact with the eye and the cornea. This can cause severe morbidity due to the constant irritation from the eyelashes touching the eye, causing:
- Mucous discharge
- Red eyes
Sometimes, this occurs because of what’s called “Orbicularis Override.” Due to excessive and forceful blinking (usually due to a nervous tick), some people’s superficial eyelid muscle (Orbicularis Oculi) becomes more powerful (as if it was lifting weights), and starts to override the underlying tissues. This causes the eyelid to invert and point the eyelashes towards the Cornea, which can cause severe irritation, redness, and even ulceration of the Cornea.
No matter the cause, Dr. Soroudi can devise an expert plan as to how to achieve the best results with the least amount of surgery (minimally invasive treatment).
