Bladeless ( ALL-Laser) iLASIK Surgery- utilizing the intrlase femtosecond laser…

Aside from being an expert in utilizing the Ziemer Femtosecond Laser, Dr. Soroudi is one of a few eye surgeons in Los Angeles who is ALSO certified in utilizing the Intralase Femtosecond Laser and has performed over 2000 bladeless “ALL-LASER” i-LASIK procedures.

When one uses a blade to do LASIK, there is no guarantee where the flap is going to end up, what shape it’ll come out, or how thick it’ll be. Also, if you lose suction, you may end up tearing the flap altogether!

Using the femtosecond laser, Dr. Soroudi designs the shape, the width, the thickness, and the location of the flap before he starts! If you lose suction, there will be no permanent damage to your eye, minimizing the risk of this very delicate procedure.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, DO NOT GET LASIK SURGERY WITH A BLADE!!! If you qualify, we even GUARANTEE you 20/20 vision or we give your money back!!! It’s that simple.

Excerpted from Dr. Soroudi’s Book: Advanced Refractive Surgery

Conceptually, LASIK is a very simple surgical procedure that involves two steps: cutting and lifting a small contact lens-like flap from a thin superficial layer of the cornea (about 100-120um in thickness), followed by reshaping of the underlying corneal tissue to correct the refractive error (near-sightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism). It is here where a computer generated “wavefront” map of your eye is programmed into the laser to provide a custom treatment of all of your eyes visual imperfections. This custom treatment is intended to provide you with the best, most clear vision, without haloes, glare, or any other higher order aberrations that can cause imperfections in your vision. Needless to say, glasses and contacts do not correct such imperfections, so utilizing this technology, your vision will potentially be better than what you currently see with your glasses or contact lenses!

The LASIK flap can either be created with a mechanical device (called a microkeratome) or with another machine (called a femtosecond laser) that, instead of cutting the cornea, creates thousands of tiny bubbles inside the cornea, which separate the tissue and create a flap. This technology allows Dr. Soroudi to customize his LASIK flaps’ shape, size, thickness, and location, and provides patients with the highest level of security and predictability. He is an expert in utilizing both the IntraLase FS- (i-LASIK) and the Ziemer LDV Crystal Line (z-LASIK) femtosecond lasers to provide patients with a safe, completely blade-free, bloodless, and painless LASIK experience. He is one of only a few doctors in town who actually guarantees qualifying patients 20/20 vision (or better), and in fact, many of LASIK patients see 20/20 the same day they had their procedure!

The femtosecond laser creates tiny bubbles within the corneal stroma at a pre-designated depth (~110um) to carve a contact-lens-shaped “flap” out of the cornea (~540um thick)

The LASIK flap is gently lifted, and the excimer laser reshapes the cornea to provide a perfect optical system.

The VISX S4 Excimer Laser with eye tracking and Iris Registration technology available in-house at the Soroudi Advanced LASIK & Eye Center.

Although Dr. Soroudi is certified and experienced to also utilize some of the other advanced excimer laser technologies around (e.g., the wavelight allegretto lasers), he possesses and utilizes the newest version of the VISX S4 “flying spot” laser with Iris Registration and eye tracking technology. The VISX S4 even treats superficial corneal scars by ablating scars / opacities that may affect vision.

The VISX S4 excimer laser delivers computer controlled overlapping pulses of cool ultraviolet light to the exposed corneal tissue, ablating or evaporating microscopic layers of the cornea

Once the reshaping is done, the flap is folded back on the eye where it self-seals within seconds. The entire procedure takes approximately a minute per eye! 99% of our LASIK patients see 20/20 or better! Dr. Soroudi guarantees 20/20 for his patients who qualify, and for those who don’t, he offers other treatment modalities (e.g., PRK, intacs, lens-based surgical options such as implantable contact lenses, cataract surgery, or clear lens exchange, and even corneal transplantation surgery). To see if you qualify, please make an appointment and come in for a comprehensive evaluation; you’ll be glad you did.
