• LASIK and Getting Married

    || 12-08-2015

    Getting married is one of the most important days of anyone’s life. Months of planning go into this one day to make sure it is perfect but one thing many might not consider is their vision when planning their wedding. Imagine being able to experience this day glasses or contacts free with 20/20 vision. LASIK may be able to help you achieve that dream and we’ve put together some factors to consider before taking the leap into LASIK prior to your wedding day.

    Find out if You’re a Candidate:

    The first thing you can do to see if LASIK is an option for you before your wedding is by finding out if you are a candidate for the procedure. Soroudi Advanced LASIK & Eye Centers offer free no obligation consultations that are performed by Dr. Soroudi. During your consultation you will have a comprehensive eye exam and your doctor will be able to find out if LASIK is an option for you. Here are some key things that play a role in if you are a candidate for the procedure:

    • Age
    • Levels of nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism
    • Stability of vision
    • Health of eyes

    Timing:

    This is one of the biggest factors to consider when planning your LASIK procedure before your big day. While the procedure itself is quick and you can expect to see results almost immediately, full recovery may take a little longer. You will need to consider all your post-op eye care instructions to best be able to determine when you should schedule your LASIK procedure for the best results for your wedding day. Your eye doctor will also be able to provide you with additional details on your procedure.

    Makeup:

    Most brides plan to have their makeup done for their big day but special care after LASIK needs to be made when applying makeup or even getting pre-wedding facials. Typically, facials and certain eye makeup are not recommended for 2-4 weeks after your LASIK procedure. So if you’re planning on getting a facial prior to your wedding day, you’ll need to make sure you’re fully recovered from your LASIK procedure to avoid any potential complications.

    Medications:

    Eye drops will need to be applied heavily after your LASIK procedure. These will keep your eyes moisturized to help avoid irritation and other complications. Some brides and grooms have difficulty finding the time to eat during their weddings, let alone trying to remember to use their eye drops. Keeping this in mind when coordinating your LASIK procedure in relation to your wedding will prevent the misuse of your eye drops and further complications.

    Honeymoon:

    If you are planning any type of beach honeymoon, you’ll need to remember that you shouldn’t swim for at least 2 weeks after your LASIK procedure. It’s important to keep this timeline in mind when scheduling your LASIK to make sure you are still able to fully enjoy your honeymoon.
