Meet Dr. Sahar Zokaeim

Dr. Sahar Zokaeim is an optometric physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of general eye disease, as well as pre- and post-operative management of cataract and refractive procedures such as LASIK and PRK, including but not limited to Keratoconus, corneal transplantation, Intacs, and others.

Background and education

Dr. Zokaeim attended the University of Southern California and the California State University of Northridge, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences in less than three years, with honors. She then matriculated at the Western University of Health Sciences, where she received her Doctorate Degree in Optometry at the age of 23. 

She graduated as a member of Beta Sigma Kappa Honors Society and was awarded as a member of the Dean’s List throughout her academic career. During her graduate training, Dr. Zokaeim also served as a research associate. Her research was presented at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology in 2012.

Experience and scope of practice

Dr. Zokaeim’s areas of study included vision therapy and neuro-rehabilitative training. During her externships, she rotated through both private practice modalities in California and the VA Healthcare System in Lyons and East Orange, New Jersey. She completed an internship with Dr. Barry Leonard and Associates in Panorama City, California, where she was trained in specialty contact lens fittings. Dr. Zokaeim also received ocular disease training with the surgeons of Orange County Retina, a prestigious ophthalmology practice that was the first in the area to specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the retina and vitreous.

A passion for service

Dr. Zokaeim is passionate about serving her community both professionally and on a personal level. During her undergraduate and graduate education, she was active as a member of Optometry organizations and clubs. She still participates as a volunteer for OneSight and Angels for Sight, providing eye care for underprivileged populations.

Dr. Zokaeim also served as a board member for the Hillel Club on campus and remains dedicated in her community as a member of Nessah Young Professionals. Recently, Dr. Zokaeim was granted an invitation to serve as a subject matter expert for the California Law and Regulation Examination.

On a personal note

In her spare time, Dr. Zokaeim enjoys socializing with her family, volunteering in her community, and cooking various cuisines. She is fluent in English, Spanish, Farsi, and Hebrew.
